History

St James's is an Anglican church (Church of England) in New Barnet. We are a friendly church for all ages and backgrounds. Our services are relaxed, and everyone is welcome whether you’ve been going to church all your life, or have never set foot in one before.

We are in the Diocese of St Albans, and part of the Barnet Deanery – our local group of Anglican churches, and enjoy working together with other churches in our area.

We seek to grow in our love for God, to engage with the community and to share the hope we have in Jesus. We know God is alive and relevant today, and that his grace is available for all.

We are a diverse and welcoming evangelical church community
  • We value the Bible as God’s last word on his purposes for people, the world, and everything.
  • We’re really excited about Jesus – the Bible reveals him to be God, our rightful ruler and our Saviour. He's the one who, through his death and resurrection, invites all people to receive a new life of meaning and purpose in his now and forever kingdom.
  • We want to demonstrate, and share, the love of God with one another and with our community.
  • We’re also an “Anglican” or “Church of England” church.  Our teaching could be labelled “traditional”, but don’t let that make you think we’re old fashioned.
  • If you want to get really technical…we subscribe to the historic creeds and formularies and the 39 Articles of the Church of England.

We aim to:
  • Deepen discipleship: we provide time and space to be in the presence of God, and opportunities to grow in faith through prayer, teaching and leadership development
  • Support our church family: we create a strong, welcoming and supportive church community where people truly feel they belong
  • Reach out to the community: we reach out to those that don’t know Jesus through creative and effective evangelism and practical care

If you would like to make a donation to the work of St James's, please follow this link to our online giving page.

Eco award: St James's has received a Silver Eco Church Award from A Rocha UK, a Christian charity which works to equip Christians and churches to care for the environment. To receive the award, we had to demonstrate environmental engagement in five areas: worship, buildings, land, community engagement and individual lifestyles.
